Tanglin Mall has become one of our new haunts. We like it because you don't have to hit the main part of town to get to it, there are some great kid's shops, a great supermarket, an ice-cream place, and we are enroute to trying the restaurants in hopes of finding new good places to eat. First up... Chili's.
Beef quesadillas, black beans and rice with sides of sour cream and guacamole.
The portions were very big, as you can expect from an American TexMex joint. But the flavour of the food itself was disappointing. The beans, rice and guacamole was overly salty. I mean... my tongue was feeling pickled after a few bites. How can they get these staples wrong? I couldn't taste any avocado or tomato or cilantro in the guacamole. Only salt. It was bad. Thankfully, the quesadillas were not so bad.
The seasoning on the rack of baby back ribs was great. We tried two flavours; honey chipotle, and original bbq. I liked chipotle flavour better because the spiciness cut the richness of the meat well, and added a nice kick to each bite. The original bbq was nice too, but nothing spectacular. Fuzzy found the pork too dry for his liking, and was none impressed. The sides of loaded potatoes and cinnamon apples were nicely done though.
Chubbs had his first full meal of pork too. His protein staples are usually chicken, egg, cheese, Greek yoghurt and occasionally beef. There are a few reasons why I prefer not to feed him pork on a regular basis, but since the meat is fresh, prepared a la minute and cooked through, I decided to let him have a go at it.
He liked it quite a lot because we gave him the most tender bits, and he especially loves biting the meat from the bone; something he always watches us doing, but never gets to do. I'd say he had a whole rib or two's worth of pork, on top of the fusilli, biscuits and raisins that I brought along for him. I let him try the quesadilla and mash too, but he didn't fancy either.
Next up... Nando's!
