Fuzzy has been on leave for the past couple of days, to clear errands and spend quality time with Chubbs and I before the crazy weekend ahead. But it's been a packed few days...
La Nonna is this Italian restaurant that's a mere 3-minutes' walk from our house, and we order take-out pizza from them for lunch at least once a week. Since Fuzzy was home, we decided to pop by for a dine-in lunch to try the other items on their menu. Between us, we shared the following:- Starter- Pan-fried mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto, with salad. Pasta- Angel hair arrabbiata with scallops. Main- Sea bass with red pepper sauce. Dessert- lemon ricotta tart.
The mozzarella and prosciutto combination was beyond delicious. Savoury, fragrant, greasy, simply more-ish. But then again, can anyone really go wrong with those two ingredients? Unfortunately for us, the good stops here. The pasta was overly sauced; a common problem in local Italian restaurants. Also, to cater to local taste preferences, they used chilli-padi in the sauce, providing searing spiciness that drowned out the delicate flavours of the scallops. The sea bass turned out really bad. To begin with, the fish was not that fresh. But the dish could be salvaged if they cooked it properly. Nope. The skin was damp and rubbery, and the overall flavours just did not meld well together. Boo. Lastly, the dessert looked promising with a slightly torched sugar glaze. But when we tasted it, it was bitter. Upon flipping the tart over, we realised that the crust was burnt black on the bottom. We told the waitress, and were made a new dessert, which didn't taste that good either :(
The pasta, after we tucked into it.
Fuzzy wrecked the tart before I could get a good pic.
Moving along, we bought some organic red grapes from our last supermarket trip for Chubbs. After lunch today, as his dessert, I passed a handful of them through the grinder, and mixed in some rice cereal, to make it easier to feed. He liked it!
"Can't smile with my mouth full."
Before dinner last night, we brought Chubbs to the newly-refurbished playground nearby, using his cousins' old twin jogger. He looked very cute chilling in it (sans twin) and guarding my bag.
I'm not much of a outdoor playground mom, but we thought we'll let Chubbs have some fun since it's new equipment that has not been used by too many booger-wiping kids yet. This was Chubbs' first time playing on slides and see-saws and he took some time to get adjusted to all the goings-on. He had fun on the slides, and enjoyed himself watching the older kids run around.
At dinner, we debuted Chubbs' new sippy straw cup that we bought from Taka's baby fair. We got several different cups, not knowing which would suit him best. We tested out one for juice and one for water. Chubbs likes them both; finishing 130ml of watermelon juice after dinner and a large cup of water throughout today. He is one hydrated baby!
"Watermelon juice, again."
